The BSJ on my new model!

My precious model finally decided to arrive; the morning after I awoke in a panic realizing that if the baby didn't come soon, chances were good I was going to be signing out of the hospital AMA to make it to the scheduled baptism...

She was born at 1:09 p.m. on May 27 after a fairly easy 6 hour labor. It is amazing to note how much easier my labors are when my water isn't broken. At 7 lbs., 13 oz she actually is my heaviest baby yet, though she was only 50cm, which makes her my shortest baby.

The good news is that the sweater did fit! Of course, the day after she wore it home from the hospital, summer hit and it has been way too hot for any sweaters. I didn't get a picture of her on the day she wore it home, so I had to put it on again last night.

And it was far too late at night for her to be this awake, but such is life with a newborn!

Just awaiting a model now...

I finished up the seaming and weaving. I have it safely tucked in my hospital bag along with a needle and the buttons so that I can put them on the correct side!

BSJ update

I've gotten 32 rows done!



I'm knitting with some stash yarn (Bernat Lollipop) in two colors. It is a baby weight/fingering acrylic. It will probably be a small newborn size since I'm knitting at 7 stitches/inch on size 3 (3.24mm) needles. I'm VERY happy that my harmony needles arrived. The joins on these are much smoother and the cable should be plenty long! I need to find a smaller holder for my stitch counter, since this one is pretty heavy.


I like how my stripes are coming along. I have one skein of white and two of the aqua, so I'm changing rather randomly, but the sweater will probably be a bit more aqua than white.

So the question remains: will the baby arrive before or after the sweater is done?

Joining the BSJ knit-along

Yeah, probably a bit insane, but since I seem to be missing the nesting instinct, I might as well knit, right?



I learned how to knit a cast on (per EZ's Knitting without Tears instructions), and have cast on 160 stitches in baby yarn on size 3 needles. I'm trying to use up yarn, and since we don't know the gender of the baby due shortly, I'm going with some Bernat Lollypop I've had stashed. I love this yarn. It is very soft and I have it in white and aqua. I would prefer to knit in wool, but I'm going to wait and see if I can use up my fawn colored dk weight baby merino on a second BSJ if I have a boy. A 6-9 month size (or bigger) will be much more useful for this baby, and I don't have any in that size for a boy. It isn't like the baby will need a newborn sweater for very long at this time of year!

In other news, I'm hating the joins on my needles. I know that I can knit a bit tightly, but I'm never going to be able to go quickly if I have to move each stitch back over the join! I was going to be thrifty, but since I will eventually need a second needle if I stick with these, I might as well order a size three harmony with a longer cord...
